Alice Marcus-Krieg

PLACEMAKER & COMMUNITY PLANNER

Alice moved to Cape Cod from Brooklyn, NY in Fall 2020; she is excited to have some breathing room, space to garden and nature at her feet.

For 20 years, Alice was Principal of a niche design/build landscaping company, Groundworks Inc, installing both public and private gardens in urban environments while overseeing sales and design contracts upwards of 1 million dollars. She has also owned and operated a retail garden center in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, launched a proprietary soil product to West Elm/Williams Sonoma for international distribution, written, produced and co-hosted an award-winning podcast, We Dig Plants™ on Heritage Radio Network, and launched a comic graphic novel series detailing horticultural histories; she also just recently completed a Master’s Degree in Placemaking and Urban Planning from Pratt Institute.

Alice moved to the Cape with her husband, son Alden and 90 lb. coonhound so that she can garden for herself, paint and hike. She now works at the Town of Barnstable Planning and Development department as Grant Coordinator and teaches horticulture and maintenance to adult learners at the The Community School, Cape Cod Tech, Harwich.

Great design solutions are a result of client and community narrative action: original, grassroots and location specific - Places tell stories of people and cultural value.
